Michael Douglas seemed to get himself into a bit of a foot-in-mouth situation over hasty, reportedly untrue or unapproved comments he made regarding the failing, questionable health of Heat star Val Kilmer. Though he may look unwell to those who have seen him out and about, Val Kilmer is insisting that he is healthy and cancer-free. Douglas, who has appeared on-screen alongside Kilmer, made the comment, “Things don’t look too good for him. My prayers are with him,” during a question and answer forum in London. Kilmer has responded via a public Facebook posts, first stating on November 1, 2016 that Douglas was “misinformed” in a lengthy, informative post that addresses the health concerns he has been facing.
The faulty conclusion drawn by Douglas about Kilmer’s non-existent cancer seems to have arisen out of true concern on Douglas’ behalf. My Mr. Kilmer’s own admission, he had requested a referral from his former costar two years ago when he was looking for the best medical professionals to treat a suspicious lump in his throat. Kilmer naturally reached out to Michael Douglas, who had battled and beat throat cancer years prior. When Douglas didn’t receive any follow up from Kilmer regarding how treatment had gone, he clearly jumped to a conclusion that Kilmer did not condone. “I ended up using a team at UCLA and have no cancer whatsoever. I still have a swollen tongue and am rehabbing steadily,” wrote Kilmer in his November 1 Facebook post. Clearly realizing and regretting his error, Douglas apologized via a note to Kilmer. This genuine apology resulted in Kilmer saying of Douglas, “He’s a classy guy.” Indeed.
